Life of a TV Junkie

June 11th, 2007 by jeffers

I’m a couch potato. I can spend my whole weekend at home watching TV. At least once for the past few months. Not because I don’t have anything to do outside the house or lack of friends, I’m just plain old LAZY. Lazy but honest enough to admit I’m lazy but again, too lazy not to do anything about it.

A few empirical evidence to support my claim.

  1. Charm School - VH1. Need I say more?
  2. Deadliest Catch - Discovery. I watch it almost every night, including re-runs.
  3. The Nanny - Lifetime. Before I go to the office EVERY morning.
  4. Any poker tournament I catch.
  5. Sheer Genius, Life on the D-List, Top Chef, actually any reality TV show in Bravo.
  6. Family Guy, South Park, and Futurama.
  7. Modern Marvel - Discovery
  8. Iron Chef, Food Network Challenge, and $40 a day - Food Network

I love TV! Not really.

Tick…Tick…Boom!

I have an insatiable appetite for life and everything that goes with it or so I’d like to tell myself. I probably spent a good half of my life wanting more, always more, complaining about the glass being half empty instead of half full.

For the next few days though I’d like to beg for your indulgence and let me act and think positive like I am the frigging motivational speaker of your school or your perky career counselor. You have my permission to hit me if I’m not acting the part. Just be ready because I’ll probably hit back at you.

I know I have a lot to be thankful and happy for. Let me see if I can write all of them down.

  1. Healthy personal relationship with God.
  2. Loving and healthy family.
  3. Fabulous friends.
  4. A good job. I’m tempted to write that ‘good’ is relative and rant about what I really think about this but I won’t. Positive. Think positive!

I guess these are the only stuff that matters to me……for now. You weren’t expecting me to enumerate my friends, shoes, and all that jazz were you? Jeez! That’d be a waste of time, my time which I actually have plenty of right now but….ok…waste of effort.

‘Look at me I’m 23, beautiful, a sight to see tonight.’ This is a line from a song that I used to think was aptly written for me (the line not the entire song)…how narcissistic…or just plain delusional. Now I replace 23 with twenty-something. How embarrassing.

Devastated

I fell in love the minute I laid eyes on them.

I almost cried when I tried them on. They were simply perfect.

But life is such a bitch! They cost a fortune!

I’m giving myself a week to think.

To buy or not to buy?

Stop Me!

September 10th, 2006 by jeffers

For the love of god! Somebody stop me!

I am half way through my nutella, about to open my 4th bag of cheetos, ate half loaf of bread…wheat bread of course, and two cups of ice cream! This is on top of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 2 granola bars!

I am sure I have a similar entry last year about bingeing…this is not good!

5 Years

August 23rd, 2006 by jeffers

A few days from now I will celebrate my 5th year in Accenture. Who would have thought that I would last this long?

Year 1 - I learned that COBOL is a jurassic computer language that is still being used today. Amazing!

Year 2 - Beginning of the Dark Age. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was, is lost.

Year 3 - Age of confusion. History is yet to decide if this was the end of the Dark Age or a new beginning.

Year 4 - Quarter life crisis.

Year 5 - Quarter life crisis. Resurgence of the procrastinate-incarnate in me.

I learned about the ‘good’ news two weeks ago. My hard work, intense lobbying, and marketing paid off.

At the end of the day, I still consider myself an economist, a pragmatist. It’s the bottom line that counts. Another year has passed; it’s time to re-visit my CBA figures.

A million thanks to you!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my sponsors, este yung mga sumalubong at malugod akong tinanggap at inaruga sa mga unang araw ko sa Florida. Hehe. :)

Nawa ay pagpalain kayo ni Emre. :)

I believe in Karma

July 30th, 2006 by jeffers

“The air is filled with deafening noise and sumptuous smells.” This is how a BBC correspondent described

New Delhi

. I really love the British way with words. It’s as if every one of them is a diplomat in training.

I am piqued at how the West, read as US and

Britain

in particular, put a blind eye to what

Israel

is doing in

Lebanon

. I am no anti-Semitic and I am certainly no advocate of terrorism. I also believe in the concept of the right to defend one self but I don’t see the right of anyone to go into their neighbor’s house without a search warrant because they believe it’s the neighbor’s son who is stealing all the cookies in the neighborhood. Wag sana sila ma-karma.

I’m stuck here at

Detroit

Airport

doing nothing for 7 hours waiting for my flight. I’m a day early than schedule to

Florida

because apparently everybody in

Manila

are going out of the country, this must be the diaspora that young, younger than me that is, student from UP talked about in her speech. All flights are booked until mid August. I tried all airlines, every possible route, via

Hong Kong

,

Singapore

,

Kuala Lumpur

,

Bangkok

, even

Taipei

to no avail! As fate would have it, I got confirmed for July 28 flight on July 27, not morning but afternoon! With my “to-do” list almost two-page long, I had to prioritize. It’s simply an impossibility to do everything in less than 12 hours what I would normally plan out for at least a week. So without sleep, I boarded a Northwest flight bound to

Tokyo

, then to

Detroit

, and later to

Florida

, my final destination. Haggardness to the nth power.
